A side lane pushing toward you means one enemy cannot arrive on time. That is worth more than any ward you place in the last ten seconds.
The fight starts when the last person arrives, not when the timer hits zero. If you are the one setting up, that arrival order is what your engage has to respect.
Your ultimate exists to start a fight your team can finish. If two of them are still walking, holding it for eight seconds is the play that wins the objective.
