MACRODIFF PLAYBOOK
How to think about Tahm Kench
Strengths, limits and power windows before you copy a build.
Strength profile
Initiation options
Tahm Kench's bounded kit model rates engage at 3/3. Treat this as a composition signal, then confirm the actual opening with the ability text and enemy spacing.
Protection and reset
Peel 3/3 measures how well the classified kit can protect space around an ally after contact begins.
Frontline capacity
Frontline 3/3 describes the kit's capacity to occupy dangerous space for the team, not permission to absorb unlimited damage.
Watch-outs
Do not wait for value automatically
Scaling is 0/3. Convert lane priority, tempo or objective access when available instead of assuming time alone improves the position.
Execution tax
Tahm Kench is marked moderate by the current difficulty band. Missing the primary pattern can change the entire next decision, so practice the reset as well as the hit.
Do not borrow a frontline job
Frontline is 3/3. If allied durability is low, solve positioning and target access before volunteering to absorb the first contact.
Power windows
Levels 1–2
Establish Tongue Lash
The max-order reference is Q → W → E, not necessarily the opening skill order. Check the actual ability learned, range and resource cost before trading.
Early skill points
Check the learned abilities
Do not assume all three basic abilities have been learned. Check the actual skill allocation and each tool's conditions before practicing an entry, follow-up or disengage.
R availability
Devour changes the decision tree
Riot's current description: Tahm Kench devours a champion for a few seconds, dealing magic damage if they are an enemy, or shielding them if they are an ally. Decide whether the cast creates access, protection, damage or an exit before using it.
Completed core
Re-check the team job
After the core build comes online, compare engage 3/3, peel 3/3, scaling 0/3 and frontline 3/3 again. Items can change priority without changing champion identity.
ROLE PLAN
Lane and tempo checklist
Contest space, not every trade
Tongue Lash is the current first-max pattern. Its threat can control space even when you do not cast it. Riot's description: Tahm Kench lashes out with his tongue, damaging and slowing the first unit hit and healing himself if he strikes an enemy champion. Applies a stack of An Acquired Taste to enemy…
Move vision with lane priority
Leave lane for river vision when your carry can safely collect the wave. Vision placed without an exit route is not worth trading a death for.
Name the fight responsibility
With engage 3/3 and peel 3/3, choose the first responsibility before the fight. Re-evaluate only after the key tool or target changes. When Devour is available, read its actual purpose before committing; not every R is an engage or escape.
5V5 PLAN
Team-fight responsibilities
Name the target before entering
Engage 3/3 supports opening, but only when allies can reach the same target. Ping or posture before spending the first key tool.
Protect the second line
Peel 3/3 makes the space around the carry a valid win condition. Do not spend every control tool on the first visible tank.
Re-evaluate after the first cooldowns
The first exchange changes health, spacing and available tools. Pause long enough to choose between continuing, peeling back or changing target; do not replay the opening automatically.
